Wellness and Health is one of the newest and most promising global markets, current estimates value the global market sector at more that $200 billion dollars in 2007 and is expected to triple by 2012, thus opening up a significant opportunity for Scottish businesses. In response to this market opportunity the Wellness & Health Innovation initiative has been developed to help businesses capitalise on the growth potential in this sector.

It aims to support companies who are considering or are already developing applications, products, services and technology to promote 'a healthy state' through preventative wellness and health goods and services which help to avoid crises and increase an individual's 'ability to live independently'.

Total Wellness Market	Wellness is "innovations in products and services to maintain a healthy state through preventative healthcare to avoid crises"
Performance Management	Where an individual seeks a higher state of fitness and health by setting personal objectives and following a rigorous programme of exercise and diet.
Lifestyle Management	Lifestyle management promotes personalised care by the individual, who is proactive and responsible for his or her own health in first instance. Lifestyle products and services help the individual manage this situation.
Disease Management	Concept of reducing healthcare costs and/or improving quality of life for individuals with chronic conditions by preventing or minimising the effects of a disease through early diagnosis and integrative care.
Post Event Home Care	This covers services and products available to a patient post treatment to facilitate speedy return to full physical and mental health
Independent Living	Looks at promoting social care and social connectivity within the home. It looks at how the convergence in technology can increase an individual's ability to remain in contact with family, friends, careers (social and health) & community, whilst maintaining independence according to their level of mobility and health.
