Wellness and Health Benefits From Web 2.0
The demand for Web-based services from wellness and health consumers, caregivers, patients, health professionals and researchers is increasing rapidly.
It is anticipated that the value of the wellness and health market will treble by 2012 to $600 billion a year.
A panel of industry leaders has been brought together to highlight the business opportunities presented by Web 2.0 - the tools and applications that allow information sharing and collaboration - to Innovative technology companies.
They will address a special event organised by Wellness & Health Innovation and ScotlandIS to encourage Scottish technology companies to take advantage of the burgeoning market.
‘Web 2.0 Opportunities for Wellness and Health' will be held on the morning of Friday 12 June and hosted by Microsoft Edinburgh at its Waverly Gate office.
Participants will hear details of:
- the latest research on the emerging market for telehealth services from Tola Sargeant of Ovum
- Microsoft's HealthVault , a platform for storing health and fitness information, from Magnus Henderson of Microsoft
- The Mobilising of Wellness and Health from Nick Hunn of WiFore, including the growth of remote wireless applications allowing patients to monitor chronic illness and promote a healthier life style.
- OLM's experience as the largest independent supplier of information solutions to the UK Care sector from MD James Marsland
Tom Ogilvie chief executive of Innovation Centres Scotland (ICS) who manage Wellness & Health Innovation on behalf of Scottish Enterprise, will welcome the participants and open the event.
He said: "The importance of the Web as a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration is growing daily. It is an ideal medium for facilitating healthier lifestyles and patient self-management of their condition. Significant opportunities exist for innovative technology companies to take advantage of the rapid growth in the eHealth sector. We want to make sure Scottish companies are in a position to benefit from these opportunities. "
