Scottish wireless product community gets innovation centre

Monday, 23rd February, 2004

A wireless innovation centre opens in Glasgow, Thursday 19th February 2004 with the aim of providing development, test and support facilities for firms developing wireless products.

The Wireless Innovation Centre at Hillington Park is supported by Scottish Enterprise and firms including Agilent, Cisco, Microsoft and T-Mobile.

"We have a complete Cisco 802.11g wireless LAN network," said Alisdair Gunn, the Centre's manager. "The Centre also provides a range of services including business advice, access to marketing, IP and legal issues, and market intelligence."

Equipment includes T-Mobile handsets for application testing and wireless LAN test monitors from Agilent. Gunn is hoping to add support for standards like RFID, 802.11a and GPRS.

Some 40 firms are already located at Hillington, ten of them working on wireless. Gunn is hoping more firms will locate in Glasgow, but is also hoping to attract other companies that need temporary testing facilities for their products.
