Virtual Property Market Challenged Once Again

Monday, 8th July, 2002

The weekend of 20th June saw the VPM team struggle across 54 miles of the West Highland Way in a time of just over 20 hours. With blisters, sore feet and lots of sore muscles there was great relief as the team walked triumphantly over the finish line to collect their gold medals from the Caledonian Challenge organisers.

The team, made up of VPM’s 3 directors, Brendan Morris, Andy Taylor and John Costello, along with Peter Orr from Tods Murray (overall Challenge winner) and Angus Clark of the Balmoral Group, raised in excess of £2000 for the Scottish Community Foundation. The foundation awards grants to small charities that help the Scottish Community at a local level to meet needs and improve quality of life. People with disabilities, the elderly and disadvantaged children are amongst those who have received support in the last 12 months.

Brendan Morris, Managing Director of VPM said “This was the toughest physical challenge I have ever experienced. If you want to know how well your team can work together, get them to try this. Finishing was a tremendous achievement for all of us, particularly with the cheering crowds and our support team waiting for us with a cold beer.

The Scottish Community Foundation is an excellent cause and as a company we are delighted to be helping the smaller Scottish charities that need it most. I would like to thank all our colleagues in the Innovation Centre for donating money to this worthwhile cause”

The Virtual Property Market was founded in November 2000 by former chartered surveyors John Costello, Brendan Morris and Andy Taylor after identifying a niche for a paperless system that would streamline current tendering processes.

The system they created, www.virtualpropertymarket.co.uk, is an e-tendering facility serving the UK’s multibillion-pound property and facilities management sector.
