  2. Entrepreneur Pitch Presentation Workshop with Bill Joos 'The Pitch Doctor' (internal event)

    Feb 12 7 Start: 08:30 End: 17:30

Bill Joos, the 'pitch Doctor' from Silicon Valley, will be back in Scotland in February 2012.

Less than one week from now Bill will be conducting two 1-day interactive seminars focused on specifically preparing and delivering your all-critical 'Elevator Pitch' as well as your initial PowerPoint presentation to attract investors... and customers.

The workshop will take place on Monday, 6 February 2012 at the Informatics Forum in Edinburgh, and will be repeated Tuesday 7 February 2012 at the Hillington Innovation Centre,Glasgow (http://www.innovationcentre.org/hillington/location/)

Bill's workshop will include these four sessions:-

THE TOP TEN MISTAKES IN BUSINESS PLANS

Your business plan is the most important document you'll write as an entrepreneur. It can be the ticket to funding and garnering interest from potential clients and partners.

Learn what NOT to do so you can develop a hard-hitting, compelling business case for your company.

PERFECTING YOUR 'SHORT BUILDING' ELEVATOR PITCH*

You can't assume your elevator pitch will be in a skyscraper! What if the mythical elevator ride is in a short building, and you only have 20 seconds?

In this session you will learn how to focus on what really matters to instantly grab the listeners attention when asked 'what does your company do ?'

    PERFECTING YOUR PITCHING*

Learn how to craft the best possible pitch(presentation) in the shortest possible time.

This session will take you through the process of creating and delivering two versions of a company overview presentation:

One suitable for a one-hour discussion with investors and a version suitable for shorter pitches, such as at the EIE 2012 investor showcase event.

This session features a hard-copy, walk-away presentation development tool that will help you put together these presentations for a technology based start-up company.

THE POWER OF AN ADVISORY BOARD

This dynamic bonus session will focus on what Bill feels is the entrepreneur's most under-utilized resource: a powerful Advisory Board.

This can be the key to tapping into external expertise and impressing investors.  When you ask for funding, you often get advice.

The opposite may also be true: ask for advice and get funding!

He is an expert in the application of user-centred design methods for corporates, SMEs and start-ups, in both public and private sectors. He helps his clients make the most of their creative resources - building new business or social value. Colin spent 15 years at IDEO - the international design consultancy, famous for its user-centred, interdisciplinary approach.

Tim Latham spends his working life helping businesses to redesign themselves so they can be more successful. Tim started two businesses, one of which was successful and the other wasn't.  The one that wasn't successful won various awards, had a fair amount of press attention and many people saying "what a great idea".  So what was wrong?  His search for a more scientific approach to understanding startup businesses eventually led him to Steve Blank's customer development process thinking and Alexander Osterwalder's business model canvas. Tim believes these two methodologies are the most significant advances in designing new businesses for decades.

Alexander Osterwalder is a sought-after author, speaker, workshop facilitator and adviser on the topic of business model design and innovation. He has established himself as a global thought leader in this area, based on a systematic and practical methodology to achieve business model innovation. Executives and entrepreneurs all over the world apply Dr. Osterwalder's approach to strengthen their business model and achieve a competitive advantage through business model innovation.

Iain Hepburn is a media commentator, columnist and director of brand journalism.  A 16-year veteran of the news industry, he has spent more than a decade working in digital media - and was named Scotland's first multimedia journalist of the year at the 2009 Scottish Press Awards.  He has worked with, and developed digital, multimedia and social news strategies for among others Trinity Mirror, Whyte and Mackay, STV, Guardian Media Group and Musa Aberdeen.  He currently writes a weekly column for the Drum looking at digital journalism and media issues in Scotland.
