Innovation Centres Scotland (ICS) and Ofcom invite you to attend this FREE event at the Hillington Park Innovation Centre on Friday 23rd April. This event aims to:
• update you on the availability of the 600MHz and inter-leaved spectrum across the UK and specifically in Scotland
• inform you on how developments have changed this and how technical considerations may affect its use
• seek your input on potential uses of the spectrum, to help us develop proposals on how best to make it available
Background: The 600 MHz band and geographic interleaved spectrum are part of the UK's digital dividend that will be freed up for new uses with the switchover from analogue to digital terrestrial television (DTT), that is due to be completed in 2012. Ofcom is considering how to make the spectrum available in ways that best suit the needs of potential users, in order to maximise the total value to society they generate over time.
There is a wide range of potential uses of this spectrum, the most likely of which appear to be digital terrestrial television (UK, national, regional and/or local) and mobile broadband alongside others including mobile multimedia services (e.g. mobile television), programme making and special events, broadband wireless access and communications for the emergency services.
Read the consultation document here: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/600mhz_geographic/statement/ ** Please note that the official closing date for responses is Wednesday, 28 April but responses will be accepted after this date.**
Presenters at the event will include Ofcom, Scottish Broadcasting Commission, Scottish Screen and potential spectrum users.
