  1. Mobile Marketing....beyond SMS

    Wireless Innovation, Scotland's national initiative for wireless and mobile technologies, would like to invite you to one of the industry's key events looking at the changing world of mobile marketing on Friday 26th January 2007 at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh.

    If you work for an agency or are a brand or advertising manager you need to know how mobile marketing can be used to differentiate your product and make it ‘stand out from the crowd'. With the development of new technology, mobile marketing has moved well beyond simple SMS text messages and is now using MMS, WAP Push and other emerging technologies to create some really outstanding, creative campaigns.

    The event will be delivered as follows -- the first half will involve speakers from various aspects of the mobile world outlining trends, what's new and what the future holds for mobile marketing.
    - The second half will include a discussion forum which is your chance to ask questions to the industry experts on the key issues surrounding mobile marketing.

    Running alongside the event there will be a showcase of mobile content/applications companies demonstrating various technologies that are available for use in mobile marketing campaigns.

    James Oliver from Shake will compère the event
    With over 15 years in Marketing James has worked for various agencies establishing a digital division. As Co-Founder of Last Orders.com, James has seen the various cycles of the digital revolution and its effect on marketing across a variety of industries.

    Phil Taylor from Strategy Analytics will give an analysts view of the mobile marketing industry, looking at trends, new developments and Strategy Analytics' future predictions for this market

    Nick Heller, Head of Mobile for MTV will discuss Broadcasting and Mobile focusing on MTV's unique perspective on mobile marketing.

    Richard Smuts, Advertising and Communications Manager for BP and Wild Bean Café in Europe. Richard will give an overview of a successful pilot mobile vouchering campaign recently run in the UK for the Wild Bean Café.

    Annabel Hembry, Head of Mobile at Associated Northcliffe, Annabel was the former Business Development Director at Enpocket and Founder and Co -Director at The Direct Mailing Group. Annabel will talk about Mobile CRM and the impact on UK business.

    Dave Barker from Enpocket, one of the first companies to enter the field of mobile marketing, will discuss what brand managers and advertising agencies are demanding from the Enpocket technology. Since 2001, Enpocket have developed the industry leading technology platform for delivering rich and relevant mobile marketing and advertising.

    Jim Evans from Shake will tell the story from the Agency side - how Mobile fits within the marketing mix. What are clients doing in the mobile marketing space and what do they expect from mobile application and content developers?

    A key individual from the Mobile Marketing Association will give an overview of what types of mobile marketing campaigns are becoming more popular and what type of clients are using mobile marketing in their campaigns

    After lunch, you will be able to view some of Scotland's leading mobile marketing content and application developers who will demonstrate their mobile marketing technology.

    ICT SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY

    The European Mobility Forum is an initiative promoted by the Torino Chamber of Commerce and the Torino Wireless Foundation, which for years have been
    investing in organising a specific event targeted at the players of this specific sector, and in promoting the Piedmont area as technological centre of excellence, enhancing Piedmont's resources in an international context together with IDC, the premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets.

    A two-day event including conferences and an exhibition area is organised to take stock of the situation concerning the use of electronic, IT and telecommunications technologies in the transport and mobility sector. The aim is to gather, within the same event, representatives of the research world, users and the offering available in this sector in terms of infrastructures, vehicles and goods.

    - International Seminar on trends in the sector (11 April 2007) - if necessary, in partnership with Il Sole 24 Ore or Nova24.

    - 900-sq meter Expo Area; meeting desk/booth; demo area; over 60 Italian and foreign exhibitors; over 1000 expected visitors.

    - Presentation of new projects and initiatives on mobility management launched in the Piedmont cluster, such as the "mobility credits" system to manage vehicle access to city centers (rights of access), the analysis and management of mobility in small and medium-sized municipalities, etc.

    - International Brokerage event: a real event within the event, with no additional cost, that will allow Italian operators to come into contact with realities all around the world where innovative products and services are experimented in the info-mobility area.
  7. Plexus European Design Centre Opening (internal event)

    Plexus would like to invite you to the official opening of the company's expanded European Design Centre at the Alba Campus in Livingston on Wednesday April 25th. The centre is being officially opened by Jack Perry, Chief Executive at Scottish Enterprise and Andy Allen, Plexus VP Europe at 11 am, after which we would like to invite you to join us for lunch. The new 3,670 sq metre design centre, located in the heart of Scotland's technology corridor, will offer state-of-the-art design services to the burgeoning local technology sector alongside major branded corporations throughout Europe.     Project XYZ - A Wireless Communications Test-Bed for Scotland

    Project XYZ is one of Scottish Enterprise’s Priority Industries key projects delivered by Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothians and is focussed on building a wide area, state-ofthe-art, next generation wireless test network for Scotland. The purpose of the network is to create an environment where a range of users and developers, both industry and academia,can develop and validate emerging products and applications using leading-edge wireless technologies. 

    The outline objectives of the network is to provide a neutral Wireless test network that is ableto simulate realistic multimedia traffic and enable product and application validation in ‘real’ live environments. In addition, the network is aiming to provide an ecosystem that fosters leading knowledge share and transfer, encouraging greater collaboration between industry partners and with academia.

  9. Strategic Selling & Negotiation Event

    In the second of our expert series we are pleased to welcome two of the UK's leading experts in strategic selling and negotiation to the Innovation Centre.

    John Leach will deliver a highly practical sales development session based on the concepts of strategic selling. John is an experienced salesman and entrepreneur, MD of Winning Pitch Ltd., founder of the Winning Business Academy and author of the best-selling book "Pitch Perfect - Feel The Impact of A Winning Sales Approach". Working with some of the world's most successful entrepreneurs John has developed a sales methodology based on the practices of high performing sales organisations and individuals. His business works with a number of leading FT250 companies, SMEs and high technology fast track business start ups.

    David Webb will focus on negotiation. David has been training and coaching negotiators around the world for almost 20 years. With a background in sales and sales management David runs workshops specialising in the buyer/seller interface for people who have not had the benefit of a sales career but are expected to sell and negotiate with customers and clients. A senior member of the PMMS Consultancy Group, recent clients include PWC, Orange, Young & Rubicam, and DTZ.

  10. Motorola Market Visit (internal event)

    Andrew Till, Motorola’s Director of Strategy and Portfolio for Motorola's Mobile Device Business in Europe, is visiting Scotland on the 20 and 21st June with the objective to hold individual meetings with companies developing mobile applications to uncover potential new applications for Motorola’s mobile devices. This is an ideal opportunity for developers to get in front of senior managers from Motorola and to present your products. Motorola are primarily interested in consumer applications, but will also be happy to receive submissions from enterprise mobility developers as well.

  12. From Concept to Royalty Cheque (internal event)

    Gillian Cordall is a partner in the IP & Technology Department of Maclay, Murray and Spens and specialises in IT, intellectual property and commercial contracts.  Gillian has particular expertise in digital media, internet issues and data protection and is known for her work in the interactive media sector, particularly in computer games where she is recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers directories.
     
    Andy Campbell, CEO of Specialmove graduated in design in 1994, and has amassed a wealth of corporate and business development knowledge within the creative and IT industries.  Andy founded Red Lemon Studios and established the company as one of the UK’s leading game development companies.

     

    This event will cover all aspects of IP and securing royalties within the digital media, mobile advertising and gaming industry.  Gillian will discuss keeping IP within the company, infringement, IP licencing and assignation, development milestones, royalty payments, liability and risk.  Andy will look at the various stages of developing and selling content, applications and games including how to secure a meeting with publishers and the do’s and don’ts of the perfect pitch.

  15. Delivering the Future of Mobile and Wireless Communications

Karen founded Ogam Marketing Ltd., a specialist technology marketing company, in July 2006 with her brother Paul, and since then, has helped a number of technology companies to scale up their business with marketing techniques designed to achieve high impact on a low budget. Karen writes regularly on technology marketing topics, and was recently involved in Scottish Enterprise’s Global Companies Development Programme, giving a series of workshops on Global Marketing Research.

    Paul Hewitt, MSc, BSc (Hons), MCIPR Paul Hewitt, has 15 years’ across PR, internal communications and marketing roles, primarily for the IT and financial services sectors. A former journalist, and experienced B2B PR copywriter, Paul has extensive experience of producing the compelling copy which is the foundation of any good marketing or PR programme.   19. Expert Series - From SMART to Success

    Receiving innovation support funding through schemes such as SMART is a great achievement for young technology companies.  But what happens next?  How do you turn great innovation into commercial success?  Where do you go for the next round of funding?

    In the third and final installment of our acclaimed Expert Series of events for 2007 we aim to answer some of these questions and help accelerate the growth of your company.  Once again we have a tremendous line up of speakers, including companies who have been through this process and funders who have helped them along their way, who will share their insights as to how to make your company a success.

    Dr Colin Urquhart - Dimensional Imaging
    Colin Urquhart is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dimensional Imaging Ltd, a Glasgow, based technology company, which provides high-speed, high-resolution 3D surface image capture and analysis solutions for medical, entertainment and other applications.  Dimensional Imaging was established in 2002 to commercialise world leading human body 3D capture and modelling technology developed at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Colin led the Scottish Enterprise “Proof of Concept” funded commercialisation project at the two universities, before becoming the Chief Executive Officer of the spin-out company. Dimensional Imaging initially received a SMART Award from the Scottish Executive, followed by three rounds of equity funding led by Braveheart Ventures and two rounds of debt finance from the Bank of Scotland. Dimensional Imaging has grown sales by over 700% in the last three years and has recently broken into profitability.

    Andrew Richards - Codeplay
    The founder of Codeplay, Andrew both manages the company and provides ideas for development of new products to meet emerging market needs. He graduated with a degree in Physics and Computer Science from the University of Cambridge and subsequently gained six years experience as a developer of hit games (including Pete Sampras Tennis) at Eutechnyx, a game development company in the North East of England. He founded Codeplay in 1997.   Andrew will be talking about what Codeplay did once the SMART grant was approved: securing matching funding, developing the technology, filing for a patent and finding customers.

    Dr Sandy McKinnon - Pentech
    Sandy McKinnon is a director of Pentech Ventures who focus on investing in early stage technology companies in Scotland. Sandy has nearly 10 years experience in helping successful commercialisation of defensible technology innovations. As Director of Knowledge Transfer & Technology and Research Services (TRS) at Heriot- Watt University he helped incubate twelve spin-out companies and helped them raise over £4.6M in funding. As a freelance consultant and also whilst he was with Scientific Generics in Cambridge - where he helped evolve and finally ran their Advance Technology Group - he provided due- diligence services over a wide range of sectors for a variety of blue-chip companies, institutions and VC funds. Sandy is on the boards of Sonaptic, CacheLogic, Omniperception, SeeWhy and RapidMobile. Sandy will give an investors point of view on the many considerations a high growth technology company has to consider when raising successive round of funding, the pitfalls to avoid and what an investor looks for.

    Brendan Waters - ICS Ltd
    Brendan leads the Innovation Advisory Services team at ICS, which encompasses the advisory teams at the Hillington Park Innovation Centre in Glasgow, the Alba Innovation Centre in Livingston and Wireless Innovation, a national project supporting wireless and mobile technology companies across Scotland.  Brendan has worked with over 70 growing technology businesses, and will share some of his insights into their successes and how they have avoided common pitfalls at the Innovation Centre.

  20. Alba Innovation Centre….1 year on (internal event)
