Hillington Park Innovation Centre client Dimensional Imaging celebrate 12 years in business.
Founded by Colin Urquhart and Dug Green as a spin-out from the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh in 2003, DI has pioneered the use of passive stereo photogrammetry for the capture of high definition 3D models. Their technology has been extended to the capture of 3D model sequences (or 4D data), and is used for high fidelity facial performance capture – something the Company is well renowned for. DI’s systems and software are used widely for entertainment and research purposes, and the Company works with organisations such as Remedy Entertainment, Electronic Arts (EA) and Sony Computer Entertainment.
Colin Urquhart says, “We started off as a two person company in 2003. Fast forward to 2015 and I am proud of the fact we have managed to grow the reputation of our company in the industry to the extent that we recently won the ‘Best Animation Supplier’ at the 2014 TIGA Games Industry Awards.”
Colin adds, “Having EA use our DI3D technology for likeness capture in FIFA was a big breakthrough in putting Dimensional Imaging on the CG map. We were then very fortunate that the first project our DI4D system was used on was the Dead Island trailercreated by Axis Animation, which went hugely viral.Since then we have had the good fortune to work on a number of high profile movie and TV projects. We are also really excited that Remedy are using our DI4D performance capture technology for Quantum Break, (due for release later this year), which we think will be truly ground breaking.”
Dug Green says: “We have always been a highly innovative company, and instead of resting after the development of our 3D capture solution, we pushed on with the development of 4D capture. Not only have we been involved in some amazing facial performance capture projects for movies, television and video games, but I am confident our latest innovation – our head mounted 4D capture system – ‘DI4D HMC’ will bring us even more success in 2015 and beyond.”
