New Alba Innovation Centre will boost hi-tech start ups.

Hi Tech start up companies in the East of Scotland will benefit from a major boost in August when the new Alba Innovation Centre building in Livingston is completed, providing first class facilities and support.

Located at the Alba Campus, the new building is purpose built to meet the needs of new companies launching in the technology sector and represents an investment of £3.5 million. It will accommodate up to 45 companies and provide flexible high quality office accommodation, backed by an extensive range of support services.

The new Alba Innovation Centre is managed by Innovation Centres (Scotland) Ltd (ICS), the organisation that also runs the successful Hillington Park Innovation Centre in the west of the country, where over 100 businesses have been incubated since 2000.

Tom Ogilvie, chief executive of ICS said, “The new building will offer outstanding facilities and support and we are confident that we can help build some significant companies in the East of Scotland.”

John Reekie of Scottish Enterprise’s Micro and Opto Electronics Team Leader added, “The incubator facility will give a valuable boost to the hi tech sector. ICS has a proven track record in successful supporting new businesses and their dedicated team of advisors will be invaluable to the new start ups locating in the Alba Centre.”

The building offers flexible facilities with 45 units designed for one to eight staff. As well as high speed internet, a wireless network, full IT support, reception and admin services, there is also a café and parking facilities.

A unique University incubation suite will offer hot desk space with access to telephone and internet, advice from the ICS team and virtual address and telephone number at no cost for six months.
